What is Costco’s latest announcement?

Costco just announced that it plans to open the very first stand-alone Costco gas station! Construction is slated to begin this fall on the brand-new Costco gas station, and it will be ready to help you fuel up starting in spring 2026. This new station, located in Mission Viejo, California, just outside of Los Angeles on the border of Orange County, will be massive, with an anticipated total of 40 pumps. That makes it the biggest Costco gas station to date!

Why is this a win for drivers?

The brand-new Costco gas station is a huge win for drivers for a number of reasons. For starters, a stand-alone gas station will help cut down on long lines at existing Costco gas locations for everyone trying to get cheap gas. Costco’s gas prices are so cheap compared with other gas stations that customers come from far and wide to take advantage. Better still, Costco members who have a Costco credit card will be able to get 5% rewards from stand-alone Costco gas stations, the same way they’ve always done at existing Costco gas locations. Plus, more locations mean even more convenience for people who live nearby, and better gas station hours.

Will non-Costco members be able to buy gas at the station?

If you’re not already a Costco member, now is the time to invest in a Costco membership. That’s because gas at the new stand-alone Costco gas station will only be available to Costco members, just as it is at all the other Costco gas stations. Non-members won’t be able to take advantage of the opportunity to save on gas. Depending on how much you drive, an annual Costco membership—which is just $65—may be worth the price, especially if you live near a Costco gas station.

Are more stand-alone Costco gas stations planned?

While Costco has yet to announce official plans for additional stand-alone gas stations, chances are we will see more of them in the not-so-distant future. Costco’s gas is one of its most popular offerings, so there’s definitely demand for stand-alone Costco gas stations. If you don’t live near the first gas station location, don’t worry, we expect more to come.
